I have a group of friends I often watch movies with. We watch everything from the latest A24 to the newest anime adaptation, and we’d usually block buy a cinema to watch together. This group has since grown into a crop of directors, DOPs and film producers known in local Philippine Cinema.
And sometimes they need help pitching a new indie to the Cannes Film Festival or building the world they want to produce for Netflix.
I establish the Art Direction as a part of pitching movies or shows vying for funding. These include establishing the mood, tone, and inspiration for the set design of stories.
I also storyboard certain scenes in movies like Patintero: Ang Alamat Ni Meng Patalo (Patintero: The Legend of Meng Patalo). These illustrations helped the director, Mihk Vergara plan out the action sequences of the final match of the kids in the movie. You can watch the full sequence here!

Directed by Rafael Manuel, Dogeater is a short film about modern day slavery— the Philippine passport.
Reminiscent of the bourgeoise, the use of the cake fork was an intentional nod to that same blatant disregard of the poor. The poster was designed to be minimal and clean to draw the eye towards the details.
The film also touches on the history of poor Filipinos, that when pushed to their limits, would opt to eat their house pets. I wanted the poster to give off a little bit of that cruelty.
